There’s A Recession?

Just kidding! You’d have to be an ostrich with your head buried in the sand not to know about the global recession. I am not a very rich person and don’t have a lot of debt, so I did not feel the crunch so bad. Some of my friends though had to make a few little adjustments to their lifestyle. The one had a ridiculously expensive yacht with monthly installments he could barely afford. When the recession hit, his business took a knock and suddenly he could not afford the seafaring beauty anymore. He had to sell her and say goodbye to his glitzy weekend entertainment. Although something as devastating as a recession is never welcome, I truly believe that it taught a few people something about how to manage their finances. With today’s economy, you cannot simply scrape through every month or live on plastic. You never know when the economic situation is going to change and when it does…it’s going to hurt you. Badly.

Dogs and Sweaters

Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. There are tiny 5 pound purse dogs and then there are gigantic 200 pound dogs who think they are lap dogs. Dog sweaters can be a cute addition to a dog’s clothing collection, if the dog has one. Dog sweaters can be bought at Wal-mart or Target or even fancy designer boutiques in downtown shops. Some dogs look cute in dog sweaters, others may look funny. Neither of my dogs have dog sweaters because my husband doesn’t like dog sweaters for dogs. He thinks that it is embarrassing or something to have a dog wear a sweater. In addition, our dogs do not really need sweaters since we live in the deep south where it only freezes a few times a year, if any. Maybe if we moved somewhere else, it would be a requirement to have sweaters for our dogs because of the cold weather.

Just Not My Day

Bad luck happens in threes, right? Well, I hope that theory is wrong as far as this day is concerned. All was well until I drove home from work. It was my turn to go at the traffic light. This idiot, who clearly do not know what a red light means, decided he was going too. His huge all-terrain vehicle caught mine from the side and took my rear bumper clean off. He was nearly as irritated as I was but at least provided me with his insurance details. Then things got worse. I stepped into a puddle of water as soon as I entered my kitchen and I quickly realized the entire floor was under water. They geyser above the kitchen had burst and leaked its entire contents through the ceiling. I am waiting in anticipation about what’s going to happen next in this not so great day of mine.

I WANT MY HORROR CHANNEL!

I miss the horror channel. It was one of the best channels in my cable channel lineup. The movies were uncut too. I looked forward to being scared after dinner and on lazy weekends. So what if the movie they showed the most was An American Werewolf in London. That was a great movie. We have channels for comedy, soaps and cartoons. Why isn’t anyone working on another horror channel? Horror movies have a huge audience. Next time there is a horror convention in your town, please attend. You’ll have a lot of fun. I know I always have fun!

SUBURBS SOOTHES MY SOUL

When I got married, my husband, who grew up in the suburbs, decided we should live in Long Island, which is in New York. I grew up in the city, and the change was hard for me at first. Now I appreciate the quietness of our town, and the fresh clean air. I finally got a car and driving to work is a privilege. In my car I listen to the radio, put on the air conditioning or heater, depending on the season. I used to miss the pulse of the city, but now I enjoy the calmness of my life.

I hate deciding what to wear in the mornings. I am usually tired in the evenings, after cooking and cleaning, and I don’t feel like picking out my wardrobe for the following day. Today is Friday, casual Friday that is, which made picking out my wardrobe this morning somewhat easy. I chose to wear jeans, because you really don’t have to iron jeans. And I chose a brown off the shoulder blouse. It is summer after all. Also, I decided to wear sneakers instead of sandals. I wanted to be comfortable today. I am ready to start the weekend.

I like to read about celebrities and their lifestyles. I feel like they are taking me along when I read about their adventures and travels. It may sound cliché, but I wish I was wealthy. Wealth, in my opinion, allows you to have a life. I work 8 hours a day, five times a week. I spend a huge chunk of my life in a small office. In the summer it hurts the most. I wish I could be traveling to exotic places, eating lobster often and drinking good wines and spirits every now and then. Life could be better.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF MARRIAGE

I am a very insecure person. I doubt myself constantly and I make decisions based on my doubts and insecurity. There are many things that I did not pursue or continue because I did not have the confidence in me. Having someone that believes in me and encourages me is very important to me. I believe everyone needs someone like that. I now have someone like that in my life, my husband. He believes in me and encourages me to be the best that I can be. I didn’t think marriage was for me, but it turns out it was.

CITY KID GOES TO SUMMER CAMP

I remember when my mother sent me away to camp. I was scared and wondered why she didn’t want me home for the summer. I remember getting into the big scary bus and crying quietly. As the bus drove on I saw the scenery change from city life to country life. There were so many trees, and there were cows and horses too! At the camp I went boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, etc., it was great. I also went to a real farm. In the evenings we would camp out and toast marshmallows. I also know what a skunk smells like! Thank you mom.

Ghost Dog

I have a dog… a small, energic, sharp toothed, dog. and this furry little heartbreaker is named Zuma. I play a lot with her, and every time I play with her, it always starts and ends the same way. she is running around my feet like crazy, I start playing with her, she starts sticking her teeth in my hands, and finally she lays on her back knowing that I’ll rub her belly. at her first Halloween, I wanted to give her a costume, but I started thinking “what dog Halloween costume is best for my little over-energized friend?” and it hit me… Zuma should be ghost, so I took a white bed sheet, cut it to down to size, cut three holes in it, 1 for her wet nose and 2 for her eyes. I put the sheet over her, fitted her nose through the hole, and put her collar over the sheet around her neck. when I let her loose she went crazy, running around everywhere almost like a real ghost. needless to say, she was very happy when I took the sheet off.
